Dental Exams and Cleanings
Everyone needs to attend regular examinations and professional cleaning appointments at least twice a year (sometimes more, if their oral health is at risk). Carefully inspecting your teeth and gums gives Dr. Noble a clear picture of the state of your oral health, and whether you may need to improve your hygiene methods or consider a restorative treatment plan. Professional dental cleaning (or prophylaxis) will ensure that your teeth are free of plaque and tartar and polished to a beautiful shine before you leave our office.
During Your Visit
Checking for Trouble
During your examination, Dr. Noble will perform a close visual inspection of your teeth, gums, and oral tissues, looking for signs of cavity development, tooth damage, gum disease, and more. A tiny, digital intraoral camera will magnify the view for more precise diagnoses, and to show you what the doctor sees concerning your oral health. Your exam will also include a comprehensive oral cancer screening, and occasionally, Dr. Noble will obtain digital X-rays to keep your records updated and/or take a closer look at a potential dental problem.
Clean Means Healthy
Dental plaque is a byproduct of oral bacteria, and keeping it under control is the best way to prevent the issues that oral bacteria cause, including cavities and gum disease. Your toothbrush and floss can do most of the heavy lifting, but if plaque sticks around for more than a day or two, it will harden into tartar and become impervious to toothpaste and water. During your dental cleaning, your hygienist will take care to remove every trace of plaque and tartar from your teeth. Then, we’ll polish their surfaces to make it more difficult for oral bacteria to cling to them in the future.
